Dr. Tom Arne graduated with his Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 1981 and his Medical Degree from Midwestern University in 1986.

He completed his internship, a year of surgery residency, his Internal Medicine Residency, and a year as Chief Internal Medicine Resident at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He finished his training  as a Cardiology Fellow as well as being Chief Fellow at Lutheran General Hospital/University of Chicago in 1994.

After being in private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan for 3 years and establishing and directing the Congestive Heart Failure program at Butterworth Hospital, he and his wife relocated to sunny Florida in 1997.  His first years here were spent in private practice with Intercoastal Medical Group where he successfully transitioned them from a primary care group to a multispecialty group.  He also established and directed the Congestive Heart Failure Program at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

In 2006, he decided to establish his own cardiology practice, Gulfshore Cardiology.  When he’s not working, he loves to be with his wife, four children and three dogs. He enjoys exercising and photography. Dr. Arne is truly grateful to the Lord for his patients, his staff and all his blessings.

It is pretty scary to realize that you can be at risk for heart disease because of things you can’t even control and no matter how old you are. Men older that 45 and women after menopause are already at risk! There are other things within your control that put you at risk like smoking, being overweight, stress, lack of exercise, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. There is a lot you can do to prevent your health from getting worse.

What’s your blood pressure? Have you even been told it’s too high? High blood pressure or hypertension is very common but very dangerous. Over time it damages your arteries, heart, eyes, kidneys and other organs. We can help you diagnose and solve this problem.

Everyone has heard about cholesterol. But do you really know what your numbers mean and which parts of the number are good or bad? Over time the bad cholesterol will most likely lead to heart attack or stroke. We can help you understand this, and work with Dr. Arne and his staff to minimize your risk

In addition to offering general cardiology services, Dr. Arne also performs non-invasive and invasive cardiology procedures, including diagnostic catherterization and permanent pacemaker placement. We focus on establishing treatment plans for high risk patients before serious problems arise.

Do you smoke or chew tobacco? Even cigars are dangerous. Everyone is encouraging you to quit. IT CAN BE DONE.

If you choose not to quit, you will be increasing your risk for heart disease, stroke, emphysema or COPD, osteoporosis, and cancer. Are you willing to take the risk? If not, let us help you break free of this habit.

Being even slightly overweight is one of the major contributors to your risk for certain diseases. Some of these include high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, and even some types of cancer. Luckily, if you’re motivated, there is a lot you can do to reduce your weight and your risks.
